Speak Hindi from day one — five-minute voice practice for real situations

Build useful Hindi out loud: नमस्ते, नमस्कार, polite कृपया / धन्यवाद, name lines with मेरा नाम… / मैं हूँ, and आपसे मिलकर खुशी हुई — short voice sessions with Gu where you say the full Devanagari line out loud, and try again instead of drilling silent vocab tiles.

Why Hindi trips beginners up

Devanagari first, आप early, and everyday Hindi.

What trips beginners up in Hindi — and how you practice it out loud. Early lessons use everyday Devanagari Hindi forms like नमस्ते, धन्यवाद, मेरा नाम… and आप.

  • Devanagari comes first

Free early targets (नमस्ते, धन्यवाद, मेरा नाम…, आप) use Devanagari as the primary script. Alphabet, वर्णमाला, and मात्रा literacy come later in the course. Silent flashcard apps push Roman-Hindi or Hinglish first. This path trains saying the full character line aloud before deep letter charts. Glosses are in English.

  • आप is the early formality gear — तुम / तू come later

Default formal आप runs through the free early lessons, in name and origin asks. Informal तुम and intimate तू come later in the course. Silent tiles skip the register choice and the full greeting breath (नमस्कार / नमस्कार जी).

  • Everyday standard Hindi

Early spoken greetings and the polite cluster are everyday standard beginner Hindi.

How Gu helps here

Say it out loud, then try it again.

Say a Hindi line out loud, and try it again.

  1. 01

    Say, retry

Practise a useful Hindi line in a short speaking loop tied to the Devanagari full line before alphabet depth, आप address in name and origin asks, or the greetings नमस्ते / नमस्कार.

  2. 02

    Real beginner situations

Greetings, introductions, and polite please, thank-you, and sorry are practised out loud, not only as silent tiles. Café कॉफ़ी, the station, बाथरूम, time-of-day greetings, numbers, वर्णमाला, and तुम / तू depth come later in the course.

  3. 03

    Protect tomorrow’s five minutes

Use the daily-habit guidance linked on this page so the next five-minute session still happens.

A first-week path

Six speaking scenes — not a fluency promise.

Voice-first scenarios, not a time-to-fluency promise. Free week one is units 1–2 only: greetings and introducing yourself, with नमस्ते, नमस्कार, मेरा नाम…, मैं हूँ, and आपसे मिलकर खुशी हुई. Café, the station, बाथरूम, time-of-day greetings, numbers, वर्णमाला, and तुम / तू come later in the course.

  1. 01

    Greet

    नमस्ते। नमस्कार। नमस्कार जी। All-purpose नमस्ते and formal नमस्कार. In the free early lessons.

  3. 03

    Polite cluster

    कृपया। धन्यवाद। शुक्रिया। माफ़ कीजिए। कोई बात नहीं। स्वागत है। Speak each as a full Devanagari breath, not an isolated letter tile. Soft extras too: नमस्कार जी, आपका स्वागत है, and शुक्रिया दोस्त. In the free early lessons.

  4. 04

    Yes and no

हाँ। नहीं। In the free early lessons.

  5. 05

    Introduce yourself

  6. 06

Ask name and origin, then close

    आपका नाम क्या है? आप कहाँ से हैं? मैं भारत से हूँ। Close with अलविदा or फिर मिलेंगे. In the free early lessons.

Coming later in the course: café orders (मुझे कॉफ़ी चाहिए), बाथरूम कहाँ है?, the station (स्टेशन कैसे जाऊँ?), time-of-day greetings (शुभ प्रभात, शुभ रात्रि, शुभ संध्या), numbers 1–20, alphabet / वर्णमाला literacy, तू / तुम / आप in more depth, and the softer क्षमा करें.

Who it’s for

Three people who open Hindi to speak, not to wait on a script catalogue.

  • English-speaking beginners

You want Devanagari greetings, name lines, and polite कृपया, धन्यवाद, and आप phrases you can say aloud in week one — without waiting for an alphabet literacy course.

  • Returning learners

You recognise Devanagari letters or Hinglish media but hesitate over full character lines and आप address when speaking.

  • Travellers and culture-curious learners

You want a small daily voice habit for hellos, introductions, and soft please, thank-you, and sorry — not a silent matra marathon. Café कॉफ़ी, station and bathroom asks, time-of-day greetings, numbers, alphabet, and तुम / तू depth arrive later in the structured path.

Hindi questions

Straight answers.

Do I need to master every Devanagari letter (or matra) before speaking?

No. Start with useful complete phrases (नमस्ते, नमस्कार, मेरा नाम…, कृपया, धन्यवाद). Rhythm and script become clearer through spoken practice; we do not promise pronunciation mastery in a fixed number of weeks. Alphabet / वर्णमाला literacy comes later in the course, not in the free early lessons.

Does VoiGu teach Hindi, Urdu, Hinglish, or Devanagari vs Roman tracks?

The Hindi path is standard beginner Hindi, and early lessons use everyday Devanagari forms (e.g. नमस्ते, धन्यवाद, मेरा नाम…, आप). There’s no separate Urdu or Hinglish version.

Can I practise Hindi pronunciation as a beginner?

Yes — use the voice-first practice loop and the page’s sound and structure examples (Devanagari characters-first lines, आप address, everyday greetings). Say the line out loud, then try it again. The free early lessons cover greetings and introducing yourself; the alphabet and informal तुम / तू come later. Hindi is written left-to-right in Devanagari.
